WOOLRYCH, HUMPHRY MICHAEL Lt Cdr GM RN (retired)


Died on 29-Nov-2013 aged 87 years.

Died 29th November 2013 in Poole aged 87. Much loved father of Noël & Robin (deceased), Tatiana & Elizabeth. Wife of Valantina & formerly Zoë & Simone. Service at St Aldhelm's, Branksome, Poole Thursday 12th December 1.45pm. Family flowers only, donations to St Aldhelm's.

Educated at Bradfield College & Trinity College, Oxford.
Joined the Royal Navy in 1944.
Qualified as Submarine Specialist; Qualified as Specialist in Protection in Nuclear Warfare; Qualified to Command Destroyers
26 years from Ordinary Seaman, through wartime RNVR commission to permanent Royal Navy commission (1948)
and to Lieutenant Commander in the Executive Branch, and as Submarine Specialist. Awarded George Medal (1952)
After service afloat in different types of warship, and ashore, final service posts were:-
1964-66 Personal Staff Officer to Deputy Supreme Commander Atlantic (a British Vice Admiral) at Norfolk, Virginia USA.
1966-68 Naval Provost Marshall, London
1968-69 Staff of Admiral Commanding Reserves, Admiralty, London.
1971-74 Director of the Monday Club (Conservative Political Pressure Group)
1974-77 Partnership Secretary to firm of Chartered Surveyors in City of London.
1979-89 Self-employed in own business of Liferaft and dinghy service and repair in Greece and Turkey.
Retired to UK
