This formidable blonde wants to live until she's at least 100 and her favourite place is Brazil.
If it all went wrong, she would happily start again at a Sainsbury's checkout.
Serpentine - one of the top 10 most visited art galleries in the UK, attracting 1.2 million people, making it the world’s 66th most visited arts institution.
Not a bad show for what was a tea-room built by the Royal Parks in 1934, which became a gallery in 1970.
Making art pay its way is also why the 63-year-old painter turned curator is on the short-list for the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year award.
Peyton-Jones has two galleries to run – the Serpentine and the Serpentine Sackler, the old ammunition store that was renovated two years ago by the Pritzker-winning architect Zaha Hadid – who also designed the first pavilion.
Her biggest bite to date was to take over the old gunpowder store and raise the £14.5m needed to create the Serpentine Sackler and Hadid’s new restaurant.
Using American-style fundraising tactics, she brought in the Sacklers, the Wolfson Foundation, Carphone Warehouse’s co-founder David Ross and many others to back the enterprise; not a penny of public money was used until it opened.
Only 15 per cent of total expenditure comes from the Arts Council.
This, says Ms Peyton-Jones, is now one of the lowest ratios of public subsidies per visitor for any arts organisation in the UK: £6 is raised privately for every £1 of public funding; an astonishing feat at a time when public arts subsidies are falling.
And entry for the public is free.
Princess Diana was the one to set the seal on the Serpentine’s party: she was photographed arriving at the party on 29 June, 1994, wearing the “revenge dress” and shaking hands with Peyton-Jones as Prince Charles was telling all to Jonathan Dimbleby on TV.

Near Swanage, Dorset by Mark Gertler.
Mark Gertler painted this view of Ballard Down and Old Harry rocks in 1916, while he was staying with his friend Montague Shearman at Peveril House in Swanage, a place he loved.
This picture was probably painted in December 1916 while Gertler was staying at Peveril House, Swanage in Dorset, which was the holiday home of his friend, Francophile collector Montague Shearman. The scene has an impression of serenity, an aspect of life that Gertler, a pacifist, was endeavouring to seek during World War I.
In a letter to Carrington he wrote, "From every window one gets a good enough view for painting… The sea surrounds the house on two sides. There is just a bit of garden and then cliff, below that is the open sea!".
At the Slade, he made friends with C. R. W. Nevinson, the celebrated first world war artist, and Dora Carrington, Gertler's greatest love until her suicide in 1932. She neither reciprocated his devotion nor was prepared to let him go, and this relationship came close to destroying him.
For Carrington, however, their mutual fascination was emphatically spiritual rather than sexual and in the coming years she led him a merry dance, always keeping him on a string but sleeping with him only in the last resort.
He was terribly alone - in 1932, his beloved mother had died and, after Strachey's death from cancer, Carrington had shot herself; six years later, Ottoline gave up the ghost.
His final show, though admired by Duncan Grant, was not a commercial success. In 1939, Gertler dragged a mattress into his studio at the bottom of the garden, stuffed it against the door, closed the windows, turned on the gas and lay down to die. He left no note.
Mark Gertler committed suicide.
He was 47.

"Between 2012 and 2014, the photographer Tomer Ifrah made several trips to Russia to document Moscow’s metro stations. “The visual aspect of the Moscow metro was very impressive—the light, people’s style of dress, and the post-Soviet symbols that were everywhere,” he told me in an e-mail.
People in the metro were introverted, he added, so that often the only sounds he heard inside the stations were people’s footsteps and the coming and going of trains. Still, on the few occasions when Ifrah approached passersby to ask them to pose for portraits, he found them willing to do so. “Hopefully the pictures will be a small window to a different reality, and will give people another perspective of daily life in Moscow,” he said."

We are very vulnerable, fragile creatures in desperate need of support and we generally don’t get it. … Art [can be] a source of help with our problems — our innermost problems — the problems of the soul. . . . Art can be a form of self-help and there is nothing demeaning about the concept of self-help — only the way in which some of self-help has been done so far, but there is nothing wrong with it as a concept. . . .
There is nothing wrong with [art today]. It’s not the art that’s the problem — it’s the frame around the art. We are simply not encouraged to bring ourselves to works of art. . . . The impact of art is often not what it should be because the frame is wrong.
