Ей было 110 лет.
Херц-Зоммер родилась в еврейской семье в Праге. Два года она провела в нацистском лагере Терезиенштадт. В общей сложности там содержались 140 тысячи евреев, более 30 тысяч из которых - погибли. По словам самой Алис, пережить ужасы концлагеря ей помогли занятия музыкой. Даже в Терезиенштадте она дала для узников более сотни концертов.
В прошлом году о жизни Херц-Зоммер был снят документальный фильм "Леди из шестого номера: музыка спасла мою жизнь".
Эта лента номинирована на премию "Оскар" в категории лучшая документальная короткометражка.
Но Алис Херц-Зоммер не дожила до оглашения лауреатов премии, которое состоится в будущее воскресенье."

“Спрашивает ли она себя, почему выжила?"

Ее единственный сын, Рафаэль Зоммер, музыкант, родился 21 июня 1937, умер 13 ноября 2001 от аневризмы аорты в возрасте 64.
Он был отправлен в лагерь со своими родителями в июле 1943, а через год, его отец, Леопольд, был переведен в Дахау, где и умер за шесть недель до его освобождения.

Валерий Афанасьев не просто декларирует романтические идеалы (конечно, небесспорные). Он живет в соответствии с ними. Ему мало успешной карьеры пианиста-гастролера. Он придумал странный жанр музыкального театра - сам пишет пьесы и исполняет в них главные роли. Публикует прозу на французском и английском языках.
Очень грустно, что творческая активность этого русского интеллигента, живущего ныне в Париже, реализуется на Западе и так мало известна в России.
"Почему музыка так воздействует на наши души? Отчего у нас в глазах стоят слезы? Откуда это замирание "под ложечкой"? Реален ли холодок где-то в области желудка или все это лишь фокусы богатого воображения? Действие музыки — это только плод воображения? Мишень музыки — это наше воображение или сердца и души?
